The range of internal French & double doors from Leader Online
Whatever aesthetic or vibe you want to create, you’ll find what you’re looking for in our internal pair door range. Below is an overview of the door types, finishes, glazing options, and sizes we have available.
Pair Door Types
- Grooved - Featuring decorative vertical or horizontal V-grooves and made with real oak veneer, our grooved French and double doors marry classic elegance with modern minimalism.
- Industrial - Inspired by the steel-frame industrial Crittall windows first introduced in the late 18th century, our industrial French doors are bold, modern, and timeless.
- Cottage - Bring rustic charm to your home with our cottage-style internal French and double doors. Their grooves are a bold piece of detailing that give your home a modern vibe, but their appearance is otherwise unobtrusive and they can slot seamlessly into an array of environments.
Pair Door Finishes
- Fully Finished - Our fully finished internal double doors already have a factory-applied coat of lacquer, meaning you don’t need to paint or stain them. Just hang them and you’re good to go.
- Unfinished - Our unfinished internal doors are essentially a blank canvas, as they arrive as raw timber, meaning you have complete creative control over the look and feel. You can sand, stain, paint, or oil these doors from scratch to match your interior.
- Primed - Our primed internal pair doors are the perfect middle ground between fully finished and unfinished. They already have a factory-applied base coat of white primer when they’re delivered, but they’re ready for you to apply your topcoat in your chosen colour.
French door glazing options
- Clear Glass - Our clear French doors maximise the flow of natural light and create an open, connected feel between rooms.
- Bevelled Glass - Our bevelled French doors feature angled, polished edges and add a touch of opulence to your interior.
- Decorative Glass - Our decorative French doors feature patterned or textured designs that add visual interest and act as a focal point when guests come over.
- Obscure Glass - Our obscure French doors are designed to distort or blur the view through the glass while still allowing natural light to pass through.
Internal Pair Door Sizes
Our internal French and double doors range in height from 1981mm, or 78 inches, to 2040mm, or 80.3 inches. The thickness is either 35mm or 40mm, depending on your spatial need or preference.
These are some of the most common questions we get from our customers regarding our internal pair doors.
What are the benefits of internal French doors?
Beyond acting as a stunning visual feature, internal French and double doors offer several distinct advantages for modern living and sophisticated interior design.
- Flexible zoning and privacy control: With internal French and double doors, you can instantly transform large, open areas into intimate, private zones that are clearly separated from their adjoining spaces. You have the freedom to throw the doors open for social gatherings and large flow-through spaces, or close them to create a quiet home office or a separate children's play area.
- Maximised natural light and flow: Our glazed French doors facilitate the free passage of natural light between rooms. They brighten up any darkened area of a house or commercial building, such as hallways, corridors, dining rooms, conference rooms, or hospitality lounges. This reduces reliance on artificial lighting and creates an enhanced sense of spaciousness.
- Enhanced energy efficiency: Using internal French doors to partition off a specific area is a smart idea if you want to trap heat in the colder months and make your space energy-efficient and comfortable.
What are the differences between internal French doors and double doors?
Although the terms are often used interchangeably, French and double doors are not the same product.
French doors are a specific type of double door that features large glass panels running across the length of the door’s surface. They let in an abundance of natural light and seamlessly connect different zones or living spaces.
Double doors are like French doors, only without glass (or unglazed). When we use the phrase ‘double doors’, we mean any panelled pair of doors that meet in the middle.
Are double doors more expensive than single doors?
Yes, you can expect to pay roughly twice as much for a double door as you would for a single door, or slightly more depending on the material, finish, and glazing.
The reasons double doors are more expensive are obvious. Not only are you paying for more door panels, but you’re also paying for the installation. Aligning a pair of doors in the middle, or doorway, is more time-consuming and complex than hanging a single hinged door.
That said, the cost is usually justified by the impact. A pair of doors creates a much wider opening, transforms the feel of a room, and adds a sense of occasion that a single door can't replicate.
What maintenance is required for double doors?
Double doors should be maintained in virtually the same way as any other door.
You should wipe them down using a damp microfibre cloth mixed with dish soap or mild washing-up liquid around once a month.
If you’ve got oak double doors, you may need to apply a protective coat of paint, varnish, or oil if you notice the existing layer start to flake or crack or if the wood starts looking faded or grey.
The hinges are worth keeping an eye on, as well. This is because the seal between your doors can wear over time through repeated opening and closing, causing the doors to shift slightly on their hinges and leave a visible gap.
You can stop the gap from getting too big by checking your hinge screws every six months and tightening up any that have come close. If a gap develops between the two leaves, the hinges may need adjusting to bring the doors back into alignment.
How do I clean French doors?
Clean your French doors’ glazed panels using a white vinegar and water solution and dry them with a lint-free cloth to avoid the appearance of wet streaks. Wipe in circular motions, as this will eliminate smudges and trap dirt and debris rather than simply pushing it around.
For unfinished timber, dust regularly and apply a protective treatment (varnish, oil, or wax) as needed to prevent moisture absorption.
We also recommend recommending dusting your French doors every couple of weeks to prevent the build-up of dust, dander, grease marks, and fingerprints. This is especially important if you’re in a house with young children and pets.
How much space do internal double doors need to open?
This is determined by the width of the doors themselves.
Opening Swing: Each door in the pair will require clear floor space equivalent to its own width for a complete 90-degree swing.
Usage Space: To make sure you can comfortably walk through the doors, leave an additional 30 to 40cm of clear space in front of the door's opening path to prevent furniture or obstructions from hindering movement.
If space is restricted in your home, consider internal bifold doors.
