Core types

There are two main door core types which you need to know about.

• Solid - Built from engineered timber, laminated wood, or other dense core materials and finished with a layer of wood on the face, known as the ‘veneer’. They generally offer better insulation and sound reduction than hollow-core alternatives while remaining more affordable than solid timber doors.
• Hollow - Constructed with a standard wood veneer over a honeycomb core, which is typically cardboard or similar material. You won’t get the same sound absorption properties as with the more solid core doors, but these doors are lighter, easier to hang, and more cost-effective.
