Made to Measure Fire Door FAQs

How is a made to measure fire door different from a standard fire door?

A standard internal fire door is only available in a fixed set of common UK sizes, such as 1981 x 762mm (78 x 30 inches) or 1981 x 838mm (78 x 33 inches). Most standard fire doors allow you to trim between 3mm and 6mm from each edge.

By contrast, a made to measure fire door can be built to your exact specifications from the outset. If your door opening falls outside the standard size range and trimming a standard door isn’t sufficient to bridge the gap, this is the optimal solution. It’s common in older properties where the original frames have settled or shifted over time, or in buildings with non-standard ceiling heights.

Both types of doors provide the exact same level of fire safety performance and will resist the spread of fire and smoke for at least 30 minutes. A made to measure door is built with the same engineered solid core as our standard fire doors. The height and width are the only major differences.

Please note: Made to measure fire doors still come with a small trimming allowance, which is usually a few millimetres per edge. This gives you some wiggle room during fitting in case the frame dimensions differ slightly from the measurements you provided.

What types of made to measure internal fire doors are available?

Styles

  • Shaker - Features a very stripped-back style consisting of one or more flat, recessed panels set within a clean rectangular frame.
  • Farley -  Features a striking five-panel cottage design which complements both traditional and modern interiors.
  • Grooved - Features a set of decorative vertical or horizontal V-grooves which give your door a clean, contemporary appearance.

Colours

Most of our made to measure internal fire doors come in oak. While other styles come and go, oak is timeless. It has a distinct rich grain pattern and warm golden hue that never goes out of fashion. 


Finishes

  • Fully Finished - Most of our made to measure internal fire doors come fully finished. They have a coat of lacquer that’s been professionally applied at our factory, meaning they’re ready to hang. You’re saving yourself the effort of having to paint, sand, varnish or stain them.
  • Unfinished - Our unfinished internal fire doors arrive as raw timber, and you can sand, stain, paint, or oil them as you wish. You have total control over the final look and can customise it according to your wider interior.

Glazing

You can get a made to measure internal fire door in clear or obscure glass, depending on where you’re installing and how much privacy you want in said space.

How long does it take to get a bespoke internal fire door made and delivered?

Are made to measure doors internal fire doors returnable?

No, they cannot be returned unless faulty or damaged. 

In instances where goods are faulty or damaged, we will take full responsibility for a return to us. 

We ask that all problems be reported to us within 24 hours of receiving the goods and that you report any damages or faults via email with relevant imagery and your order reference number. This will allow us to quickly resolve any issues and arrange for a potential replacement or refund at the earliest opportunity.
