What defines a Victorian-style internal door?

A Victorian internal door has a distinctive four-panel design and traditional proportions, as you’ll have seen from scrolling through our product feed.

It takes its inspiration from the panelled doors that were commonplace in British homes during the Victorian era from 1837 to 1901.

This type of door has four panels split into two rows of two, with the top pair typically taller than the bottom. Some Victorian internal doors incorporate raised mouldings (or panels) for a more formal, decorative look, while others feature flat, recessed panels for a clean, minimalist finish akin to shaker style doors.

The original Victorian internal doors were constructed from solid pine, so quite different from today’s Victorian-style doors. These are made from engineered timber and oak veneer, which makes them more stable and less prone to warping than their solid pine predecessors.

Fire Doors - FD30 rated and designed to provide at least 30 minutes of fire and smoke resistance. They are 44mm thick (9mm thicker than a standard door) and are essential for HMOs, loft conversions, integral garages, and blocks of flats. They’re commonly found in kitchens which are connected to hallways, garage-to-home entrances, boiler cupboards, and escape routes.
