What types of barn internal doors can I get?

• Top Mounted - The sliding rollers are fixed onto the top edge of the door as opposed to the surface. This mounting type offers a sleeker, minimalist look where the door face is the main focal point.

• Primed - Our primed internal sliding doors arrive with a base coat of white primer that’s been professionally applied at our factory. You can apply your topcoat in your chosen colour.
• Unfinished - Unfinished sliding barn doors are raw timber, meaning you can paint or stain them from scratch. This option gives you the most amount of flexibility and creative control. It’s also more cost-effective than if you go with a fully finished barn door.
• Fully Finished - Our fully finished barn sliding doors arrive with a coat of lacquer and are ready to hang. You don’t need to stain or paint them, which saves you time, effort, and hassle.

• Solid - Our solid barn sliding doors are constructed from engineered timber, laminated wood, or other dense core materials and finished with a layer of wood on the face, known as the ‘veneer’. They achieve comparable insulation and soundproofing to a solid wood door at a lower price point.
• Hollow - Our hollow core barn sliding doors are constructed with a standard wood veneer over a honeycomb core, which is typically cardboard or similar material. You won’t get the same sound absorption properties as with the more solid core doors, but these doors are lighter, easier to hang, and more cost-effective.

Are sliding barn doors easy to install?

Yes, internal sliding barn doors are easy to install.

Their track is fixed to the wall above the doorway, and they hang from the track. The guide (the metal plate that sits at the bottom or side of the door to keep it from swinging) also helps to keep them aligned.

How do I maintain sliding barn doors?

Internal sliding barn doors are low maintenance and don’t need much looking after.

You should give your door’s track, running gear, and brace — the diagonal wooden or metal support that’s typically shaped like an X or Z — a light dusting once a month or so to reduce friction and keep your door functioning properly. You can do this simply by wiping it with a dry, lint-free cloth.

If you’re cleaning your door panels, clean them as you would any type of door. Use a damp cloth dipped in a solution of warm water and dish soap, wipe in circular motions, and dry your sliding door with a microfibre, lint-free cloth to prevent the appearance of wet streaks.

If your door has glazed panels, a standard glass cleaner or a vinegar-and-water solution works well.

Check the track fixings and any screws every six months or so and tend to them with a screwdriver if needed, as they can loosen over time due to repeated sliding back and forth.

Are sliding barn doors good for soundproofing?

An internal sliding barn door will provide adequate soundproofing, but it can't match the acoustic performance of a solid hinged door of the same thickness.

This is because of the gap between the door and frame. Because sliding doors sit on a track and need a small clearance around the edges in order to move freely, this means you’ll always have air gaps which sound travels through.

If you want an internal sliding door and soundproofing is fairly important, you should choose a heavier, solid core sliding door or consider a pocket door.
