Where can I use clear glass doors in my home?
Internal clear glass doors connect independent living spaces seamlessly and are most prominent in living rooms, dining rooms, kitchens, and home offices.
They’re especially popular for living rooms that are connected to hallways or conservatories, as they extend the sightline and make both spaces feel larger.
They also brighten up what would otherwise be dark, enclosed areas such as hallways and landings.
Essentially, any room in which you want natural light to travel lends itself to this type of door.
Clear Glass Internal Door FAQs
Should I get a frosted or clear glass door?
Whether you pick a frosted or clear glass door depends on two factors:
- How much light you want to inject into your space.
- How much privacy you want.
A frosted glass door still lets light through but blurs or distorts the view. As such, it’s perfect for bathrooms, bedrooms, home offices, and any room where you want brightness without full visibility.
Clear glass lets in the maximum amount of natural light and provides a clear, unobstructed view between one space and another. This isn’t an issue if you’re installing your door between a hallway and a lounge or a kitchen and a dining room. It could be an issue, however, in spaces such as bedrooms or bathrooms, where privacy is more paramount.
To get around this issue, you could choose a bevelled glass door, which adds a decorative element to your glass without fully obscuring the view. This style gives you more privacy than completely clear while allowing more natural light flow than frosted.
Are internal glass doors energy efficient?
Yes, internal clear glass doors can provide good thermal separation between rooms, which is especially beneficial during the cold British winter. However, this is more of a bonus than a defining feature.
They won’t insulate your room as efficiently as a solid timber door of the same thickness, as the glass panels do allow some heat transfer (albeit modern glass doors use advanced technology to minimise this).
A door’s energy efficiency depends on its specific construction, glazing, and frame materials.
If energy efficiency is important to you and you have any questions about any of the doors in our clear glass range, feel free to reach out to our customer service team on 01429 241 270.
What types of clear glass internal doors are available?
At Leader Online, we’ve got hundreds of internal clear glass doors in stock. Below is a complete list of the doors we have available. All of our clear glass internal doors feature toughened safety glass to ensure maximum durability and compliance with UK building regulations.
Styles
- Grooved - These doors feature vertical, horizontal, and diagonal V-grooves which act as visual focal points and add depth and dimension to even the plainest interiors.
- Cottage - Choose rustic charm with our cottage-style glass internal doors. Traditional and unobtrusive, they slot seamlessly into many environments.
- Farley - One of our best sellers, this 5 panel cottage style door is a good fit for many homes.
- Ladder - A ladder door features shallow horizontal grooves which run across the face and resemble the rungs of a ladder, hence the name. It’s sleek, unassuming, and best suited to new-build houses and flats or any recently renovated residential space.
Glazing
- Clear - This glazing does what it says on the tin. It maximises the flow of natural light, connects different spaces, and makes dark, drab buildings feel brighter and more expansive.
- Bevelled Glass - This glazing gives your property a strong sense of opulence. It sits around the entire outside edge of the glass pane, usually at an angle of less than 90 degrees.
- Frosted Lines (Etched) - This glazing features decorative lines etched into the surface of otherwise clear glass. It’s best for hallways as visitors’ eyes are immediately drawn to the etching when they enter your property.
- Full Glazed - The glass takes up the majority of the door, anything over half
- Half Glazed - The glass takes up 50% or less of the door.
Finishes
- Fully Finished - Your clear glass internal door arrives with a coat of lacquer that’s been professionally applied at our factory. You don’t need to worry about painting or staining it from scratch, as it’s ready to hang from the moment it arrives.
- Primed - Your door has a factory-applied base coat of primer and is ready for you to apply your topcoat in your chosen colour.
- Unfinished - Your door is raw timber, meaning you can sand, stain, paint, or oil it from scratch. You have a blank canvas to work from and total creative control.
Colours
We’ve got a vast number of colours for you to choose from. Our most stocked colours in this style are Oak, White, and Black, but we also stock Walnut and Pine options, depending on your visual preferences.
Panels
Our internal clear glass doors come with a wide range of panels, from 1 all the way to 5. A single large panel maximises the clarity of view and light flow between spaces. Multiple smaller panels create a more structured, geometric appearance while still letting natural light in.
How do I clean and maintain clear glass doors?
Fingerprints and dust are more visible on clear glass than on frosted or obscure glass, so we recommend you wipe the door down with a damp microfibre cloth and pH-neutral dish soap once a month.
Dry it with a lint-free cloth to prevent the appearance of wet streaks. Avoid abrasive sponges or harsh chemicals, as they can damage the painted or lacquered surface.
For hinged clear glass doors, check the hinges every six months to see if any of their screws have come loose. Tighten any loose screws at the earliest opportunity; otherwise, your door could start sagging, causing it to drag along the floor and scrape against and damage the frame.
For sliding clear glass doors, check the track fixings and any screws every six months or so and tend to them with a screwdriver if needed, as they can loosen over time due to repeated sliding back and forth.
