The range of internal sliding doors from Leader Online
We offer hundreds of internal sliding doors, available in different colours, finishes, and mounting types. Whatever your practical or aesthetic needs, you'll find what you’re looking for in our extensive range.
Finishes
- Fully Finished - Fully finished sliding doors have a factory-applied coat of lacquer and are ready to hang. You don’t need to paint or stain them, which saves you time and stress.
- Unfinished - Our unfinished sliding doors give you a blank canvas to work from if you want total creative control. They arrive as raw timber, meaning you can sand, stain, paint, or oil them from scratch.
- Primed - Primed internal sliding doors come with a factory-applied base coat of white primer, ready for you to apply your topcoat in your chosen colour. This saves you time vs. if you bought an unfinished door while also giving you a degree of creative input. Do not paint over the track mounts, as the paint could split over time with the movement.
Our Internal Sliding Door Core
Solid Engineered Core - These types of sliding doors are built from multiple layers of timber or engineered wood, or a single engineered wood core, and covered with a layer of wood on the face, known as the ‘veneer’. They offer good levels of insulation and sound reduction and are available at a lower price point than solid wood doors. Furthermore, they are less prone to warping, which is why they’re the most practical choice for UK homeowners.
Glass options
- Clear - This glazing maximises the flow of natural light, connects rooms visually, and makes darker spaces feel brighter and more open.
- Bevelled - This glazing adds a timeless sparkle and opulence to your property. It sits around the entire outside edge of the glass pane, usually at an angle of less than 90 degrees.
- Decorative - This glazing features patterned or textured designs that add visual interest and is best for hallways and porches.
- Obscure - This glazing blurs or distorts the view through the glass while still allowing natural light to pass through. It’s perfect if you prefer privacy and want to create a degree of separation between rooms.
Mounting types
- Face Mounted Sliding Doors - The sliding rollers are fixed onto the front face, or surface, of your sliding door. This mounting type is best for modern bedrooms, wardrobes, and open-plan room dividers, where you want a neat look and have room to fix the track above the opening.
- Top Mounted Sliding Doors - The sliding rollers are fixed onto the top edge of the door as opposed to the surface. This mounting type offers a sleeker, minimalist look where the door face is the main focal point.
Colours and wood types
- Oak Internal Sliding Doors - You’ll achieve a warm, charming, and timeless look with our oak sliding doors, which ooze character and look particularly striking between kitchens and dining rooms.
- White Internal Sliding Doors - Our white doors are primed and ready for you to paint to your liking. Remember not to paint over the sliding door mounting.
- Black Internal Sliding Doors - Opting for a black sliding door allows you to make a bold statement and elevate your interior while staying on top of the latest trends, if this is important to you.
- Walnut Internal Sliding Doors - A walnut sliding door with rich brown tones is just what you need to make your space feel elegant and high-end.
- Pine Internal Sliding Doors - For an airy, bright, and cosy feel, choose our pine sliding doors, which combine affordability with lasting luxury.
These are some of the most common questions we get from our customers regarding internal sliding doors.
Are sliding doors the same as pocket doors?
No, and the big difference between the two comes down to their respective visibility.
Whereas sliding doors glide along a track mounted to the wall’s surface and stay visible when open, pocket doors can slide all the way into a hidden cavity in the wall until they disappear completely from view and are tucked away (hence the word ‘pocket’).
Your space will look cleaner with a pocket door, but it needs a hollow wall cavity it can slide into, which can make installation more complex.
It’s simpler to fit a sliding door because the track sits on the outside of the wall and no further structural work is required.
To summarise, if you want a door that stands out in its own right and can be installed quickly and easily, go for a sliding door. If you want the added benefit and space-saving aspect of your door being totally out of view and are comfortable managing a more complex installation, go for a pocket door.
Which mounting type is best for me?
Each mounting type provides the same function, so choosing between the two comes down to your stylistic preference.
Top mounted sliding doors offer a cleaner, minimalist look, allowing the focus more on the door itself.
Face mounted sliding doors offer the more traditional barn door look with the larger decorative mounting. Ideal if you are looking to create a more barn-like or industrial chic vibe.
Are internal sliding doors easy to install?
Yes, internal sliding doors are relatively easy to install.
This is because the track is fixed to the wall above the doorway, while the door hangs from the track, and the guide (the metal plate that sits at the bottom or side of the door to keep it from swinging) keeps it aligned. Plus, our internal sliding doors come with all the hardware you need, such as a sliding rail, hanger, anti-jump devices, door stoppers, floor guides, and fixings.
However, installing a sliding door can come with certain complications which you don’t encounter when hanging a standard hinged door. For instance, you must make sure that the wall above the opening can handle the weight of your sliding door and the track it will run along.
If you’re in any doubt over this and lack the technical knowledge to carry out the installation yourself, we strongly advise that you reach out to a professional joiner or carpenter. This saves you stress, worry, and time having to do in-depth research.
How do I maintain internal sliding doors?
As doors go, internal sliding doors are low maintenance and don’t need much looking after.
Your biggest priority is making sure the track is kept clean, as once it starts accumulating dust, dirt, and other forms of debris, this can cause your sliding doors to stick or judder. You can do this simply by wiping it with a dry cloth every couple of months.
If you’re cleaning your door panels, clean them as you would any type of door. Use a damp cloth dipped in a solution of warm water and dish soap, wipe in circular motions, and dry your sliding door with a microfibre, lint-free cloth to prevent the appearance of wet streaks.
Dust doors regularly and ensure a protective coating of varnish or oil has been used on unfinished doors. If your door has glazed panels, a standard glass cleaner or a vinegar-and-water solution works well.
Check the track fixings and any screws every six months or so and tend to them with a screwdriver if needed, as they can loosen over time due to repeated sliding back and forth.

Are sliding doors suitable for bathrooms?
Yes, sliding doors are a great choice for bathrooms if you’re working with limited floor space and/or want to create a minimalist look and feel.
For added privacy or to create clear separation between rooms, you should opt for a panelled or a frosted glass sliding door.
Please bear in mind that standard timber sliding doors are not waterproof. If your internal sliding door is likely to be exposed to steam and moisture, you must ensure it's properly sealed and finished. A fully finished door will handle bathroom humidity better than an unfinished door.
Can you fit a lock to a sliding door?
Yes, you have several options when it comes to fitting a lock on your sliding door.
The most common choice for bathrooms and bedrooms is a flush-fitting privacy lock with a thumb turn on the inside and a coin slot on the outside. These locks sit recessed into the door so that they don't interfere with its sliding motion.
If you’re working to a tighter budget, hook-and-eye and teardrop latches are two simple, cost-effective options that guarantee basic privacy.
For rooms which need added security, such as offices in commercial buildings, mortice sliding door locks with a key are the best bet.

Are internal sliding doors good for soundproofing?
They're better than if you just had an open doorway, but they can't match the acoustic performance of a solid hinged door of the same thickness.
This is because of the gap between the door and frame. Because sliding doors sit on a track and need a small clearance around the edges in order to move freely, this means you’ll always have air gaps which sound travels through.
If you want to buy an internal sliding door and soundproofing is fairly important, you should choose a heavier, solid core sliding door or consider a pocket door
