What wall colours are best paired with light laminate flooring?

Light floors are incredibly versatile, but your choice of wall colour will define the room's mood. For a seamless, modern look, stick to cool whites, soft greys, or neutral off-whites. If you want to create a bit of drama, don't be afraid of contrast—deep navy or forest green walls against a pale floor can look stunning and high-end.

The Expert Tip: Check the "undertone" of your floor. If your laminate has a warm, sandy hue, pair it with warmer neutrals. If it’s a cooler grey or ash, stick to cooler paint tones to keep the room feeling harmonious.

Should I choose wide plank or narrow plank light laminate flooring?

It mostly comes down to the visual flow of your room. Wide planks have fewer seams, which creates a cleaner, more contemporary look. They are great for making large, open-plan areas feel high-end and seamless. Narrow planks, on the other hand, offer a more traditional, detailed feel. They are often the smarter choice for smaller rooms or hallways, as the extra lines can actually help stretch the proportions of the space and prevent it from looking flat.

Does light laminate flooring fade in direct sunlight?

Unlike real timber, which can bleach or darken quite dramatically, quality laminate uses UV-stable inks in its design layer. While no surface is 100% immune to decades of intense glare, light laminate flooring is actually much better at hiding the effects of sunlight than darker floors. To be safe, we still recommend using sheer curtains or blinds during peak sun hours to keep your floor ageing evenly.

Is light laminate flooring prone to scratches?

A floor’s scratch resistance depends on its wear layer (look for the AC rating, we would recommend AC3), not its colour. However, light laminate has a hidden advantage: it is much better at disguising minor scuffs and pet hair than dark wood. The core material under the design is usually a light-coloured fibreboard; a small scratch is far less visible on a pale oak floor than it would be on a dark walnut one. It’s a practical, "real life" choice for homes with busy toddlers or four-legged friends.

Does light laminate flooring fade in the sunlight?

A high-quality laminate flooring is unlikely to fade in the sun but if you are conscious of your product fading, check out our light real wood flooring, which would be perfect in conservatories. Most laminate floor products feature an aluminium oxide coating as a top layer which prevents fading from a small to moderate amount of sunlight. However, if you do have  windows that allow intense sunlight through, your floors may be prone to discolouration. During times of intense direct sunlight, it may be best to draw your blinds to prevent any fading.

Is light laminate flooring water resistant?

As with any laminate flooring, there are waterproof options available; our range of light waterproof laminate flooring boasts perfect options for your bathroom and conservatory, providing that they are correctly fitted and sealed to prevent water seeping through.

Can you lighten laminate flooring?

You can change the colour of your laminate flooring by staining or painting it. Most people will choose to recolour their laminate flooring when it starts to look old or if they want a different colour in their home to match the new decor. Once done, it is best to apply a sealant to your laminate floors to protect the paintwork. Light laminate flooring can be painted to suit your preference, providing that you ensure the flooring is painted correctly.   Check out our guide on how to paint laminate flooring.
